Near Fine/VG+. 317 pages, illustrated DJ with spine slightly sunned over rust colored cloth hardcovers, map illustrated end papers showing "Dakota Reservation Range 1904"; The author was a young Texas cowboy when in 1904 the Matador Land and Cattle company of Dundee, Scotland shipped 3,000 cattle from their Texas holdings to the Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Dakota and he went with them. He spent 8 years with the big herds there and saw up to 60,000 cattle on that range. Considered to be an excellent account that realistically covers the life of a cowboy dealing with the big herds, bad winters, cattle drives, big roundups, bronc busting, cowboy humor and camaraderie, etc. Touches on this time in MT and a couple years cowboying on the Matador holdings in Canada. In 1916 the Matador bought the Coburn Circle C Ranch by Fort Belknap Indian Reservation and the edge of the Little Rockies in MT. A good read with much of interest.
